Begun in 1955, NEMRA has evolved into one of the largest clinical research sites in the United States . Started by Dr. Paul Chervinsky as a site dedicated to clinical research in Allergy and Asthma care, NEMRA has distinguished itself as a leader in respiratory research. Our physician staff now numbers 6 board certified physicians who conduct clinical trials for every major pharmaceutical company both in the US and abroad. Under the leadership of Dr. Chervinsky the site has now evolved into a fully dedicated research site that includes 14 additional employees including clinical coordinators, site managers, quality assurance, budget/contract personnel, and data management coordinators. Dr S. David Miller who joined the site in 1991 has now become co-medical director with Dr. Chervinsky and is responsible for many of the day- to-day operations at the site.
NEMRA has truly become one of the leading respiratory research centers in the United States and has expanded its operations to include several other therapeutics areas. Working with some local specialty physicians NEMRA has conducted clinical trials in the following areas: Cardiovascular Medicine, Dermatology, Rheumatology, Osteoarthritis, Migraine Headache, Endocrinology, and Urology. With a fully dedicated site and support staff NEMRA has been able to translate the high quality it brings to respiratory medicine to these other therapeutic areas. NEMRA also has the capabilities to conduct inpatient phase I trials in addition to our usual enrollment of phase II through IV clinical trials. With dedicated research space of approximately 8000 square feet we have conducted many phase I trials for several sponsors.
NEMRA is affiliated with Allergy Associates one of the leading clinical practices in Massachusetts allowing it to draw its research patients from its practice. In addition, it has a current database of 3000 patients from which it can enroll subjects.
We have added many additional areas to our research practice in the past few years enabling sponsors to benefit from rapid enrollment through high quality data management. Our dedicated computerized network allows monitors to utilize high-speed internet lines for connections to their site. Indeed, NEMRA has had experience with almost all types of remote data entry and computerized medical data transmission.
Our growth and strength has maintained us as one of the largest Asthma and Allergy clinical research sites in the country.
New projects for 2005 have included growth of our phase I capabilities with studies involving asthmatic and healthy normal volunteers in ages: 6 and older. Our phase I unit includes private sleeping quarters, stove, refrigerators, shower and bathroom facilities. We recently added a refrigerated centrifuge and –70 degree freezer.
